Save the date! Run for Her 2025 is happening on September 27. Same place, same cause.

About the Run for Her

The Run for Her is an annual fundraising run for ovarian cancer in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada.

Starting as a solo half-marathon in 2020, the Run for Her has grown to a multi-distance trail race event and education/ advocacy initiative involving collaborations with local companies and the patient community.

100% of funds raised through all Run for Her activities go to Ovarian Cancer Canada, the only national charity dedicated to overcoming the most fatal cancer affecting women and people born with ovaries.

To date, the Run for Her has raised $68,164 for ovarian cancer research, support and advocacy.

About the organizers

Collingwood native Alicia Tone founded the Run for Her in 2020 as a passion project. Alicia has been in the ovarian cancer research field for more than 20 years - she has a PhD in ovarian cancer biology from the University of Toronto, a post-doctoral fellowship in ovarian cancer genomics from the BC Cancer Agency and was a Scientific Associate at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto for 7 years prior to joining Ovarian Cancer Canada in 2019. As Director of Research at the only national ovarian cancer charity, she works closely with scientists, clinicians and patient advocates across Canada to drive research progress and change ovarian cancer outcomes.

The Run for Her volunteer organizing committee formed in 2024 and now consists of 7 local women dedicated to the cause:

Why we Run

Ovarian cancer 101

Ovarian cancer is the most fatal cancer affecting women and people born with ovaries. Long-term outcomes have not changed in 50 years.

3100 Canadians are diagnosed every year

5 Canadian women die every day

55% of those diagnosed die within 5 years

Funds raised by the Run for Her aim to change these statistics for good.

Run for Her Stories

"With my type of ovarian cancer, I’ve known early on that I would never go into remission... the time in between my recurrences, I was told, will continue getting shorter – and they have continued to get shorter, I’m on my fifth one now...In regards to when my body surrenders to ovarian cancer…it’s a fact, I know that it is going to happen – likely sooner than later... It’s hard because I personally can’t picture a world where I’m not with my son so it’s not something that I am ready to fully deal with or come to terms with, but it’s for sure something that I have thought about, as a single mom living and navigating this disease.” – Starla, 36 -

In Run for Her Stories, women living with ovarian cancer - and their loved ones - share their firsthand experiences, including the typically complicated pathway to diagnosis, the importance of self-advocacy, and what they want other women to know about ovarian cancer.
