The Run for Her is an annual fundraising run for ovarian cancer in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada.
Starting as a solo half-marathon in 2020, the Run for Her has grown to a multi-distance trail race event and education/ advocacy initiative involving collaborations with local companies and the patient community.
100% of funds raised through all Run for Her activities go to Ovarian Cancer Canada, the only national charity dedicated to overcoming ovarian cancer. Between 2020-23, the Run for Her raised $25,294 for ovarian cancer research, support and advocacy. In 2024, we raised an incredible $42,870, bringing the total raised to $68,164 to date.
In 2024, we will be holding two (very different!) events as part of the Run for Her:
June 27 - Brushstrokes + microscopes @studio ciel
Sept 28 - Run for Her Trail Challenge @3-stage trails
The cost of each event is $31, to honor the 3,100 women diagnosed with ovarian cancer every year in Canada.
Check out each event page for more details!

"With my type of ovarian cancer, I’ve known early on that I would never go into remission... the time in between my recurrences, I was told, will continue getting shorter – and they have continued to get shorter, I’m on my fifth one now...In regards to when my body surrenders to ovarian cancer…it’s a fact, I know that it is going to happen – likely sooner than later... It’s hard because I personally can’t picture a world where I’m not with my son so it’s not something that I am ready to fully deal with or come to terms with, but it’s for sure something that I have thought about, as a single mom living and navigating this disease.” – Starla, 36 -
In Run for Her Stories, women living with ovarian cancer - and their loved ones - share their firsthand experiences, including the typically complicated pathway to diagnosis, the importance of self-advocacy, and what they want other women to know about ovarian cancer.
Hi! My name is Alicia Tone and I live in my hometown of Collingwood, Ontario with my husband Carl, son Finnegan and cats Penny Lane and Eleanor Rigby. I love running slowly, dancing badly, hot yoga, experimenting in the kitchen, reality TV, and all things neon.
In my professional life, I have been in the ovarian cancer research field for 20 years. I have a PhD in ovarian cancer biology from the University of Toronto and post-doctoral training in ovarian cancer genomics from BC Cancer. I worked as a Scientific Associate at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto for 7 years prior to joining Ovarian Cancer Canada as Scientific Advisor in 2019.
I started the Run for Her in 2020 as a passion project outside my role at Ovarian Cancer Canada, and am thrilled to see it grow in size and impact each year since. The Run for Her combines my love of running, education, advocacy, and community outreach.
Every day, I have the privilege of working alongside scientists, oncologists, patient partners and colleagues who go the extra km to improve the lives of women living with or at risk for ovarian cancer; I pledge to continue to do the same. Please join me and be part of the change!
